Summary: Worst Case is a fast moving crime story that one expects from Patterson regardless who his co-author is.

NYPD Mike Bennett teams up with FBI abduction Special Agent Emily Parker from Washington DC as they case and eventually find the kidnapper of superich kids.

Main review:

The kidnapper is no ordinary person. He is well educated, affluent and has high ideals. He turns out to be  a lawyer who specialises in rich clients and also charity. This combination later explains why he is kidnapping rich kids.

With each kidnapped kid, the kidnapper asks a series of social questions like world hunger and amount of water an average US citizen consumes for a shower and that which a person in a poor arid country consumes in a year.  When the rich kid is shown to be ignorant, he/she gets killed.  But when one answered all his questions correctly, she was returned unharmed.

The kidnapper's final act was to kidnap two rich kids froman exclusive all-boys' high school and pretends to trade them for their fathers.Bennett smells a rat and fools the kidnapper while a sharpshooter gets him despite his fingers are on a detonator leading to high explosives. This all happend s in New York Stock Exchange.

The budding romance between Bennett and Parker is scrubbed out when it turns out his housekeeper who looks after him and his 10 adopted kids reveals that she loves him and he discovers that he actually reciprocates that feeling. So they part friends and she returns to Washington.
